Quetzalcoatl creates man with corn and water. Sonnets. V But the man was not always faithful to Quetzalcoatl, the snake god that with his feathers adorned the sky and with his body he covered the ground and that he was the center of everything that existed. The man allowed himself to be tempted by evil and he forgot his origin and his destiny and he rebelled against his father and his way and he departed from harmony and balance. The man became ambitious and cruel and he faced nature and the gods and he violated its laws and its precepts and he defiled their temples and their secrets. The man was lost in the dark and he isolated himself from life and emotion and he refused art and writing and he closed himself to science and culture and he refused breath and spirit and he refused love and virtue.
